The Kiyita Family Alliance for Development (KIFAD) is a registered indigenous/local non-governmental organization that seeks to respond to the causes and consequences of HIV/AIDS and poverty in the Wakiso district.
KIFAD opened the doors of its Integrated Community ECD Center in 2019 to respond to disparities in access to education and support the most vulnerable families in the early development of their youngest children. We currently have 61 students and counting.

Uganda is one of the youngest countries in the world. With 47% of the population under 15, it is crucial to invest in the development of young minds, not only in the interest of the children, but in creating an educated and skilled workforce for the future of the nation. Investing in mothers and young children has been proven to reduce children's risk of dying under the age of 5, improve children's performance in school, and increases the likelihood of breaking the intergenerational cycle of poverty that many families face.
The Kiyita Family Alliance for Development (KIFAD) opened its Integrated Community ECD Center in 2019 to support the most vulnerable families in Banda Parish of Wakiso District.
Early Childhood Development (ECD) is the physical, cognitive, linguistic, social, and emotional development of the child up to the age of 8. In rural areas like Wakiso, poverty results in 46% of these children not attending school, and home life generally involves some form of child labor that inhibits a critical stage in their development. In addition, hundreds of thousands of children are not registered at birth, and the lack of access to health services along with one of the lowest immunization rates in East Africa means many children suffer from malnutrition and poor health.
KIFAD's ECD Center provides a space for children to learn, play, socialize, and grow. Children are also provided with health services and birth registration. Our ultimate goal is to support families in enrolling their children in formal education after attending our center.
